On some very basal level it always has been and always will be this way. The most proximal cause for this is that expression always has a cost. Expression's most basic function is its revelatory nature. When properly executed expression is in essence a powerful search light that illumines a dark place. And despite our protestations to the contrary, humanity craves its darkness.
We abhor the light, because it reveals us not as we wish ourselves to be. Not as we wish others could see us as. Not as our delusions tells us that we are.
In the light of revelation, the visuals of reality either force us to change or force us to seek to aggressively extinguish the light. Truth be told, our species rarely changes. We rarely seek the altruistic path. We rarely move beyond the lower rungs of Maslowe's hierarchy of needs. More often than not we take the most expedient route and kill the messenger without even thinking. Its almost reflexive for us.
And so the cost parafigm of expression remains. Speak the truth and the pain will come. Share the words in our spirits and the alienation will begin. Give voice to the truths woven into the fabric of our being and the status quo will cease to be. The life we enjoy good or otherwise gets put at risk.
This paradigm forces most of us into silence. It muzzles us more effectively than any gag crafted by the hands of men. Rare is the person that knows the cost and still opts to speak. It takes a unique brand of person to step into the dock, that tries the souls of mankind, and share the truth with unwavering dedication and conviction. Some would argue that this uniqueness can only be described otherwise as madness. And to that end there is no compelling argument to the contrary. To be a person that knows the cost and still steps forward and says, 'Here I stand, I can do no other', most certainly be at the very least somewhat insane.
And to the end, insanity is relative and purely based upon perspective. A person willing to risk it all, when they have much in this life already to their credit that could be taken from them, does seem insane. The risk incumbent with expression is always like playing Texas Hold'em with a dealer that cheats not in your favor. Those that would speak must be willing to go all in and loose it all on a single hand with a table full of liars and cheats.
Its a form of radical bravery that those who would risk expression must accept as the rules of the house. They must be willing to believe in the validity of the expression so fervently, so ardently that there is nothing in this current context crudely called reality that can dissuade them from the act of expression. They must be willing to be publicly laid bare at risk of humiliation for their act of communication.
It is for this reason that few are willing to take this risk. Few are willing to risk speaking the truth. Few are willing to say the emperor has no clothes. That's why nature plants many seeds in the great crowd of humanity with the truth it wishes expressed. Many will not risk it. Many will falter in sharing their vision. Many will hesitate when the power of the enemy is focused on them. Nature knows this.
Nature also knows that it only takes one voice. It only takes one weak and wavering voice to cause change. It only takes one person willing to risk it all on the wheel of destiny for things to potentially be fundamentally altered. One vision shared even poorly can transmute reality into a wholly new creature. One person's truth can transmogrify our existence in a positi
